Live Concerts Rock!!

I haven’t been to a ton of concerts, but I’ve been to enough to know that I reeeeeally enjoy them!  I love live music!!!
For me, the experience is more memorable if I go with a group of friends.  It’s preferable to go with friends that enjoy the same band however.
For most of my concert experiences, I’ve gotten together with friends at a central meeting place to have a small pre-party before heading to the concert.  We usually blast some of our favourite tunes of the band to get everyone pumped up for the performance….The whole experience is FUN FUN FUN!

I thought it’d be interesting to look online for information on the psychological impact of live performances vs. listening to music on the radio or cd.  I didn’t come up with much….haha….Apparently this isn’t a popular research topic.  I did however; find a book on Google called The Oxford Handbook of Music Psychology By Susan Hallam, Ian Cross, Michael Thaut.  Here’s a tidbit from it:

In summary, the live performance situation and the audience’s response to it are only beginning to be understood from a psychological perspective.  Biographical retrospective data highlights that the live performance situation can have a substantial impact on individuals’ lives, and research undertaken closer to the time of experiencing the event emphasises the importance of emotional engagement with the experience.

I think anyone that’s attended any live performance has strong memories attached to it.  My conclusion….Live Concerts Rock!!
